Hockey fans blast Canada’s coach after ugly World Juniors

Canadian fans weren’t hesitant to voice their frustration after seeing their team lose out in the quarter-final at the World Juniors for a second straight year.

This tournament was a rocky one almost right from the get-go for Canada. In just their second game, they fell to Latvia by a 3-2 shootout final, and they never really seemed to be able to recover from that shocking upset. It all came to an end last night in a 4-3 loss to Czechia.

There were many issues with this Canadian team, none more prominent than their lack of goal-scoring. That’s what made decisions to leave players like Andrew Cristall, Zayne Parekh, Becket Bennecke, and several others off the roster. The main say in those decisions was head coach Dave Cameron, who is facing serious heat.

Not only did Cameron put together a questionable roster, but he also had many questionable in-game decisions, including a challenge on a disallowed Canada goal in the third period of last night’s game, one which clearly wasn’t going to be overturned.

After the game, Cameron did himself no favours by saying he had no regrets about anything when it came to this year’s tournament. Fans were already frustrated, but that response really set them over the top.

There were several other issues that many are putting on Cameron and his coaching staff as well. This team showed very little discipline throughout the tournament, which played a major part in their struggles.

They were also unable to find much chemistry and continued juggling lines each and every game. In the eyes of many, that boiled down to a lack of practice. Cameron, who stated he did so because his team was exhausted, even cancelled practice following the embarrassing loss to Latvia.

Given how big of an event the World Juniors are for Canadians, it’s almost impossible to envision Cameron and his coaching staff returning to this event in 2025. This tournament has certainly gotten more competitive over the years, but failing to leave with a medal in back-to-back years is inexcusable for a nation that boasts so much talent.
