Rain is in the forecast for Canada Day here in Calgary, and if your plans are still up in the air, consider this your official sign to lock ’em in.
On July 1, Spruce Meadows is bringing Canada Day indoors with a showstopping live performance from Canadian country star Brett Kissel, live entertainment, family fun, and a full day of Canadian celebration.
That’s right, Spruce Meadows is transforming into a red-and-white playground, and you can expect everything from elite sport to delicious barbecue food and more.
Here’s what’s in store.
Red and white proud

Spruce Meadows
Guests can expect to see international show jumping alongside indoor corgi races, duck herding, Prairie Dogs agility shows, and even the legendary Lord Strathcona Mounted Troop Musical Ride.
Families can wander through face painting stations, a dedicated Kids’ Zone, a mini-animal petting zoo, food trucks, and a full lineup of vendor shopping.

Spruce Meadows
Did someone say free food? Arrive hungry because a complimentary classic Canadian barbecue, presented by ATCO, kicks off at 12:30 p.m., available for the first 3,000 guests. Yes, free food to fuel your entire day of exploring, cheering, and soaking it all in. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Brett Kissel, weatherproof fun, and surprise experiences

Spruce Meadows
At 3 p.m., head indoors to the Equi-Plex where Brett Kissel will be taking to the mic for a live performance that’ll have you dancing the afternoon away. Sing along to fan-favourite hits, soak in the Canada Day atmosphere, and enjoy an energetic show from one of Canada’s most celebrated country artists.
And, if you’re feeling brave, you can get a little creative inside Horizons Pavilion with Deadly Tattoos and Deadly Beverages. Here, experience live tattooing as well as exclusive Spruce Meadows and Canada Day designs led by James Tex (winner of Season 16 of Ink Master and the first Canadian to ever take the title). Guests can walk up and get tattooed onsite.
While you’re there, check out all the amazing art and enjoy some tequila and canned cocktails.
Dress to impress

Spruce Meadows
Of course, showing up in your most festive Canada Day outfits is highly encouraged. Full maple-leaf maximalism is best, because there’ll even be a costume contest where five special winners will land prize packages valued at up to $1,000.
Admission is $25 + GST for adults and $10 + GST for children (aged 3 to 12) and seniors. Parking is free, and the admission includes access to the live show jumping, entertainment, and all the Canada Day festivities.
Show up early, don your red and white, and prepare for something that goes well beyond the usual Canada Day!
