The Calgary Zoo’s newest kid giraffe is taller than you – well, of course she is.
Five year-old Emara is a Masai giraffe and has joined the zoo’s tower, aka a group of giraffes.

The Calgary Zoo is one of the nine Canadian zoos caring for fewer than 30 giraffes. Emara was brought over from the San Diego Zoo and will have a big role to play in the conservation of her species.
“As a conservation organization, we are dedicated to protecting species here at home and around the world,” says Dr. Malu Celli, Curator at the Calgary Zoo said in a statement. “Wild Grraffe populations have decreased by 50 per cent, due mostly to habitat loss and poaching in the wild. In this way, we are helping to play a role in the preservation of the species.”
