6 of the wildest Guinness World Records broken in Calgary

Calgary is a pretty incredible place, and it even holds some impressive world records. Over the years, the city has definitely seen its fair share of wild ones being attempted.
From pancakes to superheroes, here are six wacky Guinness World Records that were broken in YYC.
Guinness World Record attempts follow strict guidelines and require detailed proof before being officially recognized. From video evidence to witness statements, every attempt must meet specific criteria to be deemed official and earn the record.
Most pancakes served in eight hours

During the 2025 Stampede, CF Chinook Centre set a new record for the most pancakes served in under eight hours. They served an impressive 26,994 pancakes in just under four and a half hours.
Most heads shaved simultaneously
In partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Calgary Fire Department teamed up and shaved 329 heads simultaneously on March 12, 2016. The attempt even raised over $140,000 to fight cancer.
Largest gathering of people dressed as Batman

In 2014, a total of 542 Nexen Energy employees dressed up as Batman to achieve this world record. They were the first group to ever achieve this record and used it to promote a new campaign, From Suits to Superheroes. More than 10 years later, they still hold the record!Â
Largest Cuba Libre cocktail

Calgary’s Romero Distilling Company Ltd. achieved this record during the 2022 Stampede. The gigantic Cuba Libre cocktail measured an impressive 1,003 litres, surpassing the previous record by 500 litres.
Largest fruit sculpture
While the record has since been beaten, in 2013, Orange Julius and Dairy Queen collaborated on Stephen Avenue, using over 1,200 pieces of fruit to construct a 10-foot tree sculpture, which earned them the Guinness World Record for the largest fruit sculpture.
Longest ice bath

In 2024, athlete AndrĂ© Belibi sat in an ice bath for a record-breaking four hours and five minutes. He took the ice bath during the Servus Calgary Marathon Runners’ Expo at Stampede Park in support of Autism Canada. The record has since been broken, but only by a mere minute.Â
