While temperatures are expected to reach 16°C in Calgary this week, this fall warmth will soon be a thing of the past.

AccuWeather has just released their winter forecast for the Calgary, and it’s looking cold and snowy.

The weather website is forecasting a “snow-filled winter” with frequent snow storms, thanks to the development of La Niña, according to AccuWeather Canadian Weather Expert Brett Anderson.

The Rocky Mountains are expected to have a few big snowstorms throughout the winter, and colder weather will extend the ski season well into the spring.

But it’s not just the Rockies feeling the effects of La Niña. Anderson said that the Prairies will experience “dangerously low” temperatures throughout the winter.

So basically, make sure you’ve got some solid mittens this winter.
