Tourism Calgary and WestJet just launched a new travel program aimed at turning international layovers into overnight experiences in the city.
The Calgary Stopover Program, which launched on June 10, 2026, comes from Tourism Calgary and WestJet with support from the Calgary International Airport and the Calgary Hotel Association and will allow eligible WestJet passengers to add a stop in Calgary as part of their journey, along with access to hotel deals and local attractions.
The program includes 19 exclusive hotel offers across the city and access to the Calgary Attraction Pass, which provides discounts at some attractions and experiences in the city.

“Millions of travellers already pass through Calgary every year, and this program creates a simple way for them to experience our city rather than just connect through it,” said Alisha Reynolds, president and CEO of Tourism Calgary, in a release.
According to Tourism Calgary, more than seven million international travellers connect through Calgary each year without leaving the airport. The program will initially focus on U.K. travellers leveraging WestJet’s year-round service from London Heathrow and seasonal flights from Edinburgh.

It’s currently structured as a pilot, with plans to expand additional routes over time. WestJet says travellers can book the stopover as part of a single itinerary using its multi-city booking tool, while eligible passengers on select routes can add a Calgary stop at no additional airfare cost for up to seven days.
” Calgary is at the heart of WestJet’s global hub strategy and proudly serves as a primary gateway for international visitors to our hometown city,” said Steve McClelland, WestJet’s partnership and loyalty vice president.
“The Calgary Stopover program delivers tangible benefits to local businesses and is a true testament to the strength in collaborating with local partners that share the same passion for sharing Calgary’s beautiful scenery, amazing food scene and vibrant culture.”
