The brutally cold weather that has gripped Calgary lately is about to shift dramatically, with a significant warm-up expected for YYC next week.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) predicts the frigid conditions will ease by the middle of next week, bringing some much-needed relief.

In the meantime, however, Calgary will experience a few more frosty days, with daytime highs ranging from -16°C to -14°C.

Tonight’s overnight low of -18°C marks the chilliest point of the week.

Things begin to improve early next week, with Monday’s forecasted high of -1°C leading the way to above-freezing temperatures.

Come Tuesday, we’ll hit the positive side of the mercury, and Wednesday is expected to bring the warmest point of the week with a balmy high of 11°C.

When you do the math, that’s a whopping 29-degree difference between the week’s coldest and warmest points — and we’re ready for the big thaw!

So get ready to swap your parka for a lighter jacket, stock up on windshield washer fluid, and enjoy the slushier, warmer days ahead in Calgary.
