Calgary expected to see some stunning weather during the August long weekend

Aug 2 2019, 12:39 am

Whether you’re getting out into the mountains, taking a float down the Bow River, or simply setting up a backyard BBQ, this August long weekend is expected to be a treat.

Calgarians are wise to be wary of summer storms literally raining on their parade around this time of year, but we’re thinking that it’s time to bring out some sunny optimism about this weekend, because the weather is predicted to be spectacular.

From Friday straight through Monday, The Weather Network is calling for warm days with sunny skies and just the occasional mix of clouds.

The fun starts off on Friday with a scorching 31°C high and a cool 12°C at night. It might get a little windy, however, with gusts of up to 36 km/h, so just be sure that sunhat is on nice and snug.

The rest of the weekend cools off slightly with highs of 26°C on Saturday, 24°C on Sunday, and 24°C on Monday, but the mix of sun and clouds makes for the ideal skies for anyone doing anything remotely active over the long weekend.

Winds will also calm down to anywhere between 10 and 26 km/h throughout those three days.

The short workweek that follows could actually get a little warmer, seeing a high of 27°C on Wednesday, August 7 — so if you were smart enough to take off a few extra days after the long weekend, you’ll be sitting pretty!

Now, this is Calgary, after all, so no weather report would be complete without a brief disclaimer explaining that any forecast around here should be taken with a sizeable grain of salt… especially given the wild storms that have been hitting the Prairies over the past few months.

So knock on wood, check the forecast regularly, and start planning for one seriously gorgeous weekend out here in YYC.
