Calgary named 2nd best Ultimate Sports City (small city), 6th overall globally

After being narrowed down to the top 30 cities in the world, Calgary has been ranked as the second best Ultimate Sports City (small city) and sixth overall globally, an award given out by SportBusiness every two years.

The awards, announced today at a ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland, were broken down into categories based on city size (population split into extra large, large, medium, and small) as well as ones for Best Newcomer and Best Home-Grown Event.

The cities were judged on several criteria: hosting, venues, transportation and infrastructure, accommodation, event strategy, legacy, quality of life, public support, security, and marketing and branding.

Calgary finished in second place in the small city category behind Glasgow, Scotland. In 2014, it placed first in the category and fifth overall globally.

The only other Canadian city, Vancouver, placed 16th overall and third in the small city category.
