Calgary Surge fire head coach Perry Huang after horrible start to the season

The Calgary Surge have relieved head coach Perry Huang of his duties, the team announced in a statement on Monday.
The Surge have struggled immensely this season, owning a league-worst 0-7 record. They are the only winless team remaining in the CEBL.
“Our organization remains focused on competing at the highest level and experiencing the
success we’re accustomed to,” said team president Dylan Howe. “We believe the change in
direction allows us to move forward in pursuit of those goals.”

It was a quick and ugly tenure for Huang, who was named head coach of the Surge this past March. Prior to the hiring, he was serving as an assistant coach of the South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead this group in Calgary,” Huang said shortly after being hired. “The Surge have built something special on and off the floor — passionate fans, an award-winning front office, and an exciting roster. My staff and I are excited to get to work and push this organization over the edge and claim our first championship.”
Huang’s last game with the Surge came on Saturday, where his team fell to the Scarborough Shooting Stars by a 96-80 final.
This season has gone about as bad as possible for the Surge, who made some major steps in the right direction in 2025 by putting together a 17-7 record. That was good enough for second in the Western Conference, trailing only the Vancouver Bandits.
There has been no information provided as to who they may be looking at as their next head coach, though a decision is likely to be made soon. The Surge will be back in action Wednesday night at the WinSport Event Centre to take on the Saskatoon Mamba.
