Calgary Stampede Showband auditions open on May 30

If you’re a student aged 16 to 21, it’s time to get your musical march on and strut your showband stuff at this year’s Calgary Stampede Showband auditions!

Auditions will be held on Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31 at the Big Four Building on Stampede Park.

But it’s no walk in the park if you want a coveted spot on the Stampede’s Showband.

Candidates must be students from Calgary and the surrounding area, with past musical or dance experience and a strong desire to develop their musical skills and showmanship.

Auditions also require each individual to prepare several short excerpts and exercises in advance – and attend both days of auditions.

Nevertheless, judging by the testimonies from former band members, all that hard work will pay off.

“There’s nothing better than Stampede Week. Sure, it’s more demanding than anything you’ve ever experienced, but it’s also a lot of fun!” says one unnamed showband member.

“This band has taught me to take risks, and to believe in things greater than myself,” says another.

Successful candidates will be notified by July 18 and the first rehearsal will take place in September.
