Another day, another new update on the soon-to-be home of the Calgary Flames.
CANA Construction has been doing some incredible work since first starting to build Scotia Place in July 2024. Roughly a year and a half later, the construction site is far more than just a hole in the ground, as plenty of the building is very easy to see for those who drive past.
Less than two weeks ago, fans were given some exciting updates on the progress being made on the new building, which is expected to be ready to rock for the 2027-28 season.

āWeāre in a real position of transition, I would say, on this job right now⦠weāve had a good fall season and really made good use of the warm weather. Steel-wise, weāve started our first two levels of steel in the bowl, and in the next couple of weeks, weāre going to start the upper two tiers and get to the high point of the roof.ā
On Thursday, the City of Calgary provided even more exciting updates on the upcoming arena.
In 2026, the steel frame of the building is expected to be fully completed. After that is wrapped up, installation on the exterior walls and roofing will get underway. Work will also begin on the interior spaces, as well as both the outdoor and indoor plazas.

The indoor plaza at Scotia Place will be open to the public year-round outside of private or ticketed events. It will also serve as the home for several community functions and will offer a flexible layout for a variety of different events and activities.
There will be three outdoor plazas on the north, south, and west sides of Scotia Place. Cool features will include a large viewing screen, which will serve as the home of the Flames’ red lot. There will also be an open area suitable for up to 3,000 guests for everyday use.
During community events, the entire area can be transformed into a bigger space to hold up to 5,000 guests. It will also serve as a festival street for some great outdoor fun for Calgarians.
While there is still plenty of work to be done, 2026 will serve as a year where fans can really start to see this new building take shape. Though moving out of the Saddledome will be bittersweet, Scotia Place looks like it will be an arena that those in Calgary will quickly fall in love with.
