Calgary's quality of life tumbles down ranking of world cities
Calgary is proving to be a great place to live after cracking the top 100 in a global ranking of cities with the highest quality of life.
The ranking comes from Numbeo, which analyzed 304 cities around the world to determine which offers the highest quality of life. The ranking considers multiple factors, such as safety, cost of living, health care, pollution, crime, purchasing power, housing affordability, and traffic and commuting.
Calgary ranked 95th out of the 304 cities, earning a quality of life index score of 179.1.Â
The city scored 125.7 for purchasing power, 62.2 for safety, 73.4 for healthcare, 64.5 for cost of living, 5.7 for property price to income ratio, 29.4 for traffic commute time, 23.8 for pollution, and 33.1 for climate. Calgary ranked as the sixth-highest Canadian location on the list.

Calgary dropped from its spot on the list in 2025, when it ranked in 74th place with a score of 179.4. According to Numbeo, in mid-2025, Calgary dropped even further and found itself in 102nd place with a score of 176.3.
Our neighbours to the north in Edmonton placed 111th, with a quality of life index score of 175.2, just slightly behind Calgary.Â
Globally, the Netherlands dominated the top of the list, with the top five cities located there. The Hague, Netherlands, came in first place with a quality of life index score of 230.1.
When looking at North America, Calgary came in 40th overall. Ottawa took the top spot in North America with a quality of life index score of 198.1, followed by Tampa, Florida, with a score of 189.2, and Jacksonville, Florida, with a score of 188.7.
