Get ready to celebrate, Calgary. We are officially one of the best cities in the world, with a high quality of life.
YYC, along with four other Canadian cities, cracked the top 25 in the Mercer 2024 Quality of Living Survey.
“Canada is often considered one of the top locations from a quality living perspective due in part to its political and economic stability and social and cultural environment, and several major Canadian cities are represented in the top quarter of our 2024 rankings,” said Vince Cordova, a Mercer partner for mobility advisory services in North America, in a statement.

According to Mercer’s methodology, quality of living is calculated based on the practicalities of daily life for international assignees and their families in cities.
Calgary landed 25th place overall, with Mercer citing Calgary’s “strong job market” as a factor.
Vancouver slotted in seventh place, Toronto came in at 13, and Ottawa and Montreal tied for 20th. They all rank above the top US city, Boston, at number 32.

“The Canadian cities on the rankings each have their own unique culture and lifestyle, from Vancouver’s access to nature and recreation opportunities, Toronto’s incredible diversity, Ottawa’s proximity to Parliament, Montreal’s historic downtown, and Calgary’s strong job market,” added Cordova.
Calgary’s ranking fell slightly over the past year, dropping two points in 2024.
“Canada continues to be a leading destination for international assignees who can access the range of benefits the country and cities have to offer.”
