Calgary police say a man has been charged after allegedly tunnelling through the floor of his southwest apartment and into his neighbour’s unit.
Police were called on Sept. 5 to the 6400 block of Coach Hill Road SW for reports of a break-and-enter. A woman told police she returned home to find her residence disturbed and a large hole in the floor, despite the door being locked.
Investigators believe her downstairs neighbour had tunnelled into her suite through an open space behind a fireplace. Police say the two had ongoing issues that had escalated in recent weeks.
On Sept. 8, officers executed a search warrant at the man’s residence and took him into custody.

“The idea that someone would go to such lengths to gain unauthorized access to another person’s home is not only alarming, but it also shatters the fundamental sense of safety we all deserve in our own residences.”
