Construction is moving ahead on the Glenmore Twin Arena, which is set to bring two new ice rinks to Calgary next summer.

The $85.6 million project is replacing the aging Stu Peppard Arena in Glenmore Athletic Park, which was built in 1962.

Construction began in March 2025 and is expected to continue through next year. In an October 2026 update, the City of Calgary said the foundation, structural steel, precast bleachers, and roofs over both rinks are complete, along with the electricity and natural gas connections.

The City says crews are now working on the building envelope, masonry, mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, and other exterior work, with the project set to wrap up in Summer 2027.

The new facility will feature two ice rinks, spectator seats, team rooms, a spectator concourse, a multipurpose room and classroom, support spaces, and additional parking.

The project has been in the works for quite some time now, with the City first identifying the need to replace Stu Peppard Arena back in 2020. Council approved funding for the new twin arenas in June 2021.

The new rink isn’t the only upgrade Glenmore Athletic Park has seen; back in 2025, a new running track was put in to replace the original track and field.

For those looking to hit the ice, Stu Peppard Arena is still open and will remain open until the new facility is complete.

There are a few other recreation projects underway in Calgary right now, including Munro Park, which is wrapping up construction after a $6.4 million upgrade, and construction is moving ahead on the Northeast Athletic Complex.
