Calgary to see a big snow melt with a 29-degree temperature swing

It’s been a frosty start to 2026 in Calgary, but a nice blast of heat is in the forecast, bringing the temperatures way, way up.

According to the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecast, the weather in Calgary is well below average for today, Jan. 5; however, the thermometer will start to rise as we stumble through the week.

As of writing, Calgary is sitting at -17°C and is forecast to reach a high of -8°C today, with an overnight low of -11°C and a slight chance of flurries. Daytime highs are on the rebound come tomorrow, as Tuesday’s forecast suggests a high of 2°C and a mix of sun and cloud.

We roll through most of the work week at just above or just below-zero territory, with Saturday, Jan. 10, at a gorgeous 12°C, and Sunday, Jan. 11, at 10°C. Better start making those outdoor weekend plans already.

When you do the math between the current temperature in Calgary and the daytime high on Saturday, it’s a temperature change of 29 degrees.
