Calgary Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf is quickly making a name for himself in the NHL.
Wolf, who dominated the AHL through his first three seasons of professional hockey, has had Flames fans excited about his potential for years. Throughout the rest of the league, however, he was something of an unknown, but that is quickly changing.
The 23-year-old was able to crack the Flames roster out of training camp this season and has since taken over the number-one role. Through 36 appearances, he owns a superb 2.58 GAA along with a .913 SV%, numbers that have him in the running for the Calder Trophy.
It’s not just fans that are taking notice of how good he is, either. Speaking after he and his Carolina Hurricanes teammates were able to pick up a 2-1 overtime win against Wolf and the Flames, Pyotr Kochetkov heaped some big praise on the budding star.
“I know this guy. We played against [each other] in [the] AHL,” Kochetkov told reporters. “I think he’s the next superstar. I remember how he played a couple years ago in [the] AHL. Now, I think he’s having a very good season too. For me, I think he’s a top-10 goalie in the league this season.”
Pyotr Kochetkov on if he likes having a light workload: "No. l think all goalies say that that is garbage."

While there are sure to be some ups and downs moving forward for the young and relatively inexperienced Wolf, he’s quickly proving that he has what it takes to become one of the best goalies in the NHL. He is unquestionably the biggest reason that the Flames — who sit 31st in the league with 152 goals this season — are currently sitting in a wild-card spot.
