7 Calgary Flames who could suit up at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The Calgary Flames could have some pretty good representation at the 2026 Winter Olympics this coming February.

For the first time since 2014, NHL players will be competing at the Games. It’s something that every hockey fan is excited about, as veterans such as Sidney Crosby will get another shot at a gold medal, while the likes of Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon will compete for the first time.

While final rosters aren’t due until Dec. 31, the Flames have several players who are in the running to suit up for their respective countries. Here’s a look at the hopefuls on their roster.

Martin Pospisil (Slovakia)

If healthy, Martin Pospisil will suit up at the Olympics. The 25-year-old was one of the original six players named to the roster alongside Juraj Slafkovsky, Tomas Tatar, Erik Cernak, Martin Fehervary, and Simon Nemec.

The issue for Pospisil is that he has yet to play this season after suffering an upper-body injury during training camp. He continues to remain without a timeline in regards to a return, but still has some time to get back to full health.

Rasmus Andersson (Sweden)

Another Flames player who has a strong shot at suiting up for the Olympics is Rasmus Andersson. The 29-year-old is performing better in 2025-26 than he did a season ago, and was a part of Sweden’s roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off. He’s not a lock, but has a good chance at being named should he play well for the remainder of November and December.

Sam Honzek (Slovakia)

Sam Honzek wasn’t expected to crack the Flames roster this season, but has played extremely well on a line with Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman. He recently suffered an upper-body injury and is being deemed week-to-week, but should be able to crack Slovakia’s roster assuming he recovers in time.

Mikael Backlund (Sweden)

Mikael Backlund was left off of Sweden’s roster at the 4 Nations Face Off, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t in the mix for an Olympic spot. The 36-year-old vet has had a solid season with nine points in 20 games, and would be a solid shutdown option for the Swedes.

Adam Klapka (Czechia)

Adam Klapka has been serviceable in a fourth-line role with the Flames this season, which may be enough to see him crack Czechia’s roster. He’s currently the eighth-highest Czech scorer in the NHL this season, and had a good showing for his country at the World Championships. He’s not a lock, but his inclusion wouldn’t come as a surprise.

MacKenzie Weegar (Canada)

Many in Calgary were surprised to see MacKenzie Weegar’s name left off Canada’s roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off. He’s turned into a true top-pairing blueliner with the Flames and was thought to have a good chance at making Canada’s Olympic roster. Those chances have decreased significantly, however, as he’s struggled through 20 games this season.

Dustin Wolf (USA)

Dustin Wolf is in a tough position to crack the USA’s roster at the Olympics. After all, they have plenty of goalies to pick from, including Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Oettinger, Jeremy Swayman, and Thatcher Demko. His 3.01 GAA and .896 SV% through 17 appearances haven’t helped his chances.
