The Calgary Flames have yet to put together a full 60 minute effort through their first four games of the 2025-26 season.
Much like we saw versus the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, the Flames were fantastic through the opening 20 minutes versus the Vegas Golden Knights in Tuesday night’s tilt, and headed to the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
That was as good as things would get for the Flames, as the Golden Knights cut the deficit in half in the second frame, before scoring three unanswered in the third to walk away with a 4-2 victory.
“It’s much similar to the last three. We’re just not playing complete games,” head coach Ryan Huska said. “Whether it’s portions of the third period, or a portion of the second period, I thought we got away with what was giving us success earlier in the game. We changed it a bit, which I thought allowed [the Golden Knights] to get some of their mojo going.”
It’s been a puzzling start for the 1-3-0 Flames, who, last season, often seemed to play their best hockey in the later portions of games. These past three games have been much different in that regard, which is quickly becoming a point of frustration in the locker room.
“It’s a lesson that probably shouldn’t have to be learned with this group,” Coleman said. “We’ve got guys that have been there and know how to do it. This one is disappointing, but we’ve got a game tomorrow. It’s a quick turnaround. We’re gonna flush that and try to replicate that first period for 60 minutes.”
One of the bigger talking points of tonight’s game was the fact that Daniil Miromanov got the call to make his season debut. Playing on a pairing with MacKenzie Weegar, the 28-year-old was up to the task through the opening two periods, but was burnt wide in the third on what wound up being the game-winning goal by Jack Eichel.

“I thought he had some shifts,” Huska said of Miromanov. “Some good, some he’d probably like to have back.”
Sitting out in favour of Miromanov were Jake Bean and Brayden Pachal, one of whom will likely get back into the lineup on Wednesday versus the Utah Mammoth.
