Calgary Flames announce two cuts from training camp roster

The Calgary Flames trimmed their training camp roster by two on Wednesday afternoon.

With their season opener just over a week away, both management and coaching staff have plenty of work to do in order to figure out their opening night roster.

While many decisions still need to be made, the Flames announced on Wednesday that two players have been re-assigned to the Wranglers.

The most notable of the two cuts is defenceman Abram Wiebe, who the Flames acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights as part of the package for Rasmus Andersson. He signed a two-year, entry-level contract following his third season at the University of North Dakota this past spring.

Wiebe, 23, suited up for four games with the Flames last season, going pointless while averaging just north of 12 minutes in ice time. He needs some time at the AHL level to further develop his game, but remains a legitimate prospect.

Also being re-assigned to the Wranglers is Luke Philp, who signed as a free agent this offseason. It marks a return to North America for the 30-year-old, who spent the 2025-26 campaign playing in the SHL.

This marks Philp’s second tenure with the Flames organization, as he signed with them as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. He went on to play three seasons with the Stockton Heat before departing the organization to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks.

With this latest announcement, there are now 43 players who remain on the Flames’ training camp roster.

The Flames will be back in action on Thursday night in a road game versus the Seattle Kraken. They will then play one final exhibition match on Saturday at Rogers Place against the Edmonton Oilers.
