The Calgary Flames couldn’t make it happen during the 2024 NHL Draft, when Tij Iginla was selected sixth overall by the Utah Mammoth.
Utah stepped to the podium before the Flames, who later selected Zayne Parekh ninth overall.
However, in 2026, the Flames were able to draft another one of Jarome Iginla’s kids.
Early in the third round of the NHL Draft, Calgary selected Joe Iginla with the 65th overall pick.
It’s a feel-good story for Calgary, bringing the son of a franchise legend into the organization.
However, the pick was a tad surprising, considering that Joe Iginla wasn’t ranked on most draft boards. He was ranked 200th among North American skaters, according to NHL Central Scouting.
The youngest of Iginla’s three kids posted 15 goals and 33 points in 59 WHL games this season. His production dipped following a midseason trade from the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Vancouver Giants.
However, Iginla is a very late birthday for this draft class, being born on August 13, 2008. He was one month away from being eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft.
Iginla must be a proud papa, as all three of his kids have been drafted into pro hockey.
Aside from Tij and Joe, Jarome’s daughter, Jade, was recently drafted 18th overall by PWHL Hamilton during the 2026 PWHL Draft.
