Calgary Flames reveal lines ahead of season opener and Parekh appears to be a healthy scratch

The Calgary Flames have just one day remaining before beginning their 2025-26 regular season.

The Flames will soon head to Edmonton to face the Oilers in their season opener on Wednesday night.

Despite the season having yet to get underway, the Flames are already a banged-up bunch, with Jonathan Huberdeau and Martin Pospisil beginning on the injured reserve. As a result of their injuries, Matvei Gridin has stuck with the team out of training camp, while Sam Honzek was recalled from the Calgary Wranglers on Monday.

Before heading out to Edmonton, the Flames practiced at Winsport on Tuesday morning. Based on line combinations at Tuesday’s practice as revealed by Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960, here’s what fans should expect to see versus the Oilers.

With Huberdeau’s absence, head coach Ryan Huska is trying to get creative with his top line in order to spark some offence against the Oilers. To little surprise, it appears that Honzek will be the odd man out up front.

The bigger surprise, however, comes on the back end. Based on pairings at practice, it appears as though Zayne Parekh will be a healthy scratch on Wednesday night. Instead, Huska looks like he’ll go with Jake Bean and Brayden Pachal on the back end. Daniil Miromanov is also expected to sit as a healthy scratch.

Although some fans are frustrated over Parekh being held out of the lineup, it’s worth noting that the Flames start their season on a back-to-back, as they’ll play the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Huska wants to be patient with the 19-year-old, who in all likelihood will suit up against the Canucks.

After their two road games to begin the season, the Flames will return to Calgary to prepare for their home opener on Saturday afternoon versus the St. Louis Blues.
