The Calgary Flames have been struggling for offence, and are looking to fix that issue with their latest recall.
Roughly 24 hours after placing Justin Kirkland on waivers and re-assigning Daniil Miromanov, the Flames announced that they have recalled forward Rory Kerins from the Calgary Wranglers.

Kerins was viewed as a dark-horse candidate to crack the Flames’ roster out of training camp, but wound up being placed on waivers shortly before the 2025-26 season got underway. He currently leads the Wranglers with five goals and 14 points through 13 outings.
The 2020 sixth-round pick made a huge jump in his development in 2024-25, where he racked up a team-leading 33 goals and 61 points in 63 games. He was also able to suit up for five games with the Flames, where he had five assists.
With Kerins, his offensive abilities are undeniable, though his skating and defensive play have hurt him in his quest to become a full-time NHL player. Based on head coach Ryan Huska’s comments after placing him on waivers, it seems there is a good chance that Kerins will play a top-nine role when in the lineup.
“If there’s one guy that’s come the furthest, it’s probably him with our organization, even if you look back a couple years ago,” Huska said. “I feel it’s important for Rory that we look at him as a top-nine guy, and that’s where he has to play.”
This could be viewed as somewhat of a desperation move from the Flames, who have managed just 37 goals through 18 games for an NHL-worst 2.06 goals per game rate. The second-lowest team in that category is the Seattle Kraken, who are averaging 2.50.
The Flames also find themselves on a three-game losing streak, a span which has seen them find the back of the net on just two occasions. While Kerins alone won’t fix those issues, he should be a better solution than Kirkland, who had just one assist in the nine games he’d suited up for this season.
