Calgary Flames owner Murray Edwards has seen his net worth drop rather significantly over the past year.

ForbesĀ recently dropped its yearly ranking of billionaires, which Edwards, to no surprise, was once again a part of. The 65-year-old has served as a co-owner of the Flames since 1980, making him the third-longest tenured owner in the NHL.

While Edwards’ name showing up on this year’s Forbes ranking is no surprise, seeing his current net worth is. On last year’s list, he was listed as having a net worth of US$3.3 billion. Though still ridiculously wealthy, his net worth this time around is listed at $2.8 billion.

Edwards first appeared on the yearly ranking in 2015, with a net worth of $1.8 billion. That figure increased all the way to $2.9 billion in 2022 before dropping ever so slightly in 2023. This year’s drop of roughly $500 million is by far and away his largest decrease in the five years he’s appeared on the list.

“N. Murray Edwards derives much of his fortune from stakes in Canadian oil and mining companies,” Edwards’ Forbes profile reads. “His largest investments include oil sands miner Canadian Natural Resources, aerospace firm Magellan and a minority stake in the NHL’s Calgary Flames.”

Edwards sits 1,305th on the list, which includes 3,028 individuals. Edmonton Oilers owner Darryl KatzĀ sits 605th in this year’s ranking with a net worth estimated to be a jaw-dropping $800 million.

At the top of the list is Tesla founder Elon Musk, with a net worth of $342 billion. Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos sit second and third on the list, with net worths of $216 million and $215 million, respectively.
