The Calgary Flames will have some new faces in the lineup when they hit the ice on Thursday night.

A dreadful 0-3-0 start to the season in which they’ve been outscored 16-3 has led to some roster changes for Ryan Huska’s squad.

On Monday morning, the Flames placed Connor Zary and Brayden Pachal on waivers. Both players went unclaimed and have since been assigned to the Calgary Wranglers. The move opened up two roster spots, which were filled on Wednesday.

The Flames have called up two forwards, Aydar Suniev and Jonathan Castagna. Both are intriguing prospects, giving the fan base an opportunity to see how they look early into their professional careers.

Based on line combinations provided by QR 770’s Pat Steinberg, it looks like both will be in the lineup when the Flames welcome the Colorado Avalanche to town.

Castagna was centering the fourth line during Wednesday’s practice, while Suniev was alongside him on the left wing. Adam Klapka appears to be the man staying in the lineup on the fourth line, while Martin Pospisil has been bumped up.

Should these line combinations remain in place, it looks like Brennan Othmann will serve as a healthy scratch for the third time this season. He’ll be joined by Maxim Tsyplakov, who has gone pointless through the Flames’ first three games.

With the Flames desperately searching for answers after their disastrous start, Suniev and Castagna will now have an opportunity to provide some. Neither was expected to be in Calgary this early, but with the team struggling to find any offensive consistency, the two prospects have a chance to make an immediate impression.
