The Calgary Flames organization is continuing to do everything they can to support the family of Johnny Gaudreau.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly eight months since Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau passed away in a tragic accident late last summer. The losses have had an impact on many, none more so than the close family and friends of Gaudreau. As difficult of a situation as it has been, many, including the Flames, have tried to help in the best way they can.
As many in Calgary know, Meredith, the wife of Johnny, recently gave birth to the couple’s third child, Carter. Meredith has made it clear several times how appreciative she is of the Flames organization for their support, and yesterday revealed on Instagram that she was gifted a jersey for her newborn son.

“Carter’s first jersey,” Meredith wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Calgary Flames.”
Gaudreau, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 draft by the Flames, wound up playing 602 games with the organization. During that time, he racked up 210 goals and 609 points, the second of which is fifth all-time in franchise history.
Following the 2021-22 season, Gaudreau chose to sign a seven-year deal as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Though fans in Calgary were upset with the decision, they continued to support the man known as Johnny Hockey, giving him a standing ovation in his return to the Saddledome during the 2022-23 campaign.
This past December, Flames fans once again showed their love and support for Gaudreau, giving a lengthy standing ovation while showering down chants of ‘Johnny’ as the fan favourites family hit the ice to pay tribute to him and Matthew ahead of a game versus the Blue Jackets.
Though nothing can ever make up for this unimaginable tragedy, it’s been heartwarming to see the continued support shown to the Gaudreau family from not only the Flames organization and its fans but the hockey community as a whole.
