The 2025-26 NHL season has nearly wrapped up, giving fans a good indication of where the Calgary Flames will be positioned heading into the draft lottery.
Plenty of the Flames’ fan base were hoping to see the team struggle this season in hopes of landing the first-overall pick, and with a 32-37-9 record, there is a chance that comes to fruition.
The Flames won’t finish dead last in the NHL standings, as the Vancouver Canucks have somehow amassed just 52 points. They do, however, sit 30th, and do still have a chance to drop to 31st, which is currently occupied by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Realistically, the highest the Flames could finish in the NHL standings is 28th. They are currently four points back of the Seattle Kraken, with both teams having four games left on their schedule.
Essentially, the Flames could finish the 2025-26 season anywhere between 28th and 31st place. Here is a look at what their draft lottery odds would be based on where they finish.

Tankathon
Assuming the Flames don’t finish any higher than 28th in NHL standings, the lowest they would pick at the draft this June would be seventh overall. If they surpassed only the 29th- placed New York Rangers, they could have a 44.6 per cent chance at selecting fifth overall.
Now, should the Flames remain exactly where they are, they would have a 30.5 per cent chance of landing a top-three pick. Their highest pick in franchise history to date came back in 2014, when they selected Sam Bennett fourth overall.
The good news for Flames fans is that their schedule to close out the season isn’t a particularly easy one. Three of their remaining four games will come against the Colorado Avalanche, Utah Mammoth, and the LA Kings, all three of whom sit in a playoff spot. The other will be played against the Kraken, though it will come on the road, where the Flames have gone just 11-25-4 this season.
