Take this Tuesday up a notch by getting out into the city and attending one of these awesome events taking place this January 7.

Winter ice skating at Olympic Plaza

What: Built in 1988 for the Olympic Winter Games, Olympic Plaza has the only refrigerated outdoor ice surface in the city. You can rent skates down at the plaza if you don’t have a pair of your own. Helmets are strongly encouraged.

When: Open daily until mid-March
Time: 10 am to 9 pm

Admission: Free. Skates are also available to rent

FOX Women’s Ride Night at B-Line Bike Park

What: Women shred on the cheap at B-Line Bike Park this Tuesday, January 7, with admission at $20 and bike rentals going for just $15.

Esker Foundation

What: Esker Foundation connects the public to contemporary art through relevant, accessible, and educational exhibitions, programs, and publications. The gallery reflects on current developments in local, regional, and international culture; creates opportunities for public dialogue; and supports the production of groundbreaking new work, ideas, and research. Admission is free.

Go Snowshoeing

What: Take in the crisp outdoor air and the picturesque views as you march your way through the many trails in and around the Calgary area – plus, it’s a great workout! If you’re an inner city roamer check out Fish Creek Park Or Nose Hill for some fantastic trails close to home. If you’re interested in taking a drive out to the Rockies, Canmore, Bragg Creek and Banff all boast unreal trail paths that lead to some magical destinations. Be sure to check trail reports before heading out, and dress for the weather!

Celebrate Nic Cage’s birthday

What: A group has organized a truly exciting celebration of the man, the myth, the legend, Nic Cage. While the movie star won’t actually be in attendance, those who do show up for the festivities will enjoy prizes, celebratory drinks, and four big screens “filled with the best of Nic Cage freak outs.”
