Calgary Drop-In Centre cancels volunteer shifts due to coronavirus

Mar 13 2020, 8:48 pm

The Calgary Drop-In Centre will be operating with fewer workers than usual following precautions taken amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The centre has announced that it will be cancelling all volunteer shifts and has suspended future volunteer opportunities as of Friday, March 13.

“We know and appreciate how passionate Calgarians are about the vulnerable population in Calgary. More than ever, we and all homeless-serving agencies will need the community’s support to protect our city’s most vulnerable people during this pandemic,” the release states.

The centre also urges anyone who would like to donate to do so by bringing donations to the Donation Centre at 3640 11a Street NE, and not to the emergency shelter until further notice.

Additional updates will be made on the Calgary Drop-In Centre’s social media channels.

With coronavirus on the rise, Health Canada is reminding individuals who attend events and large gatherings to monitor their health for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. And if you’re not feeling well, they recommend staying home at this time. Also, due to unexpected cancellations, please check the event you plan to attend is still taking place. Keep up with COVID-19 news here.
