Calgary Cheap Eats: Where to eat in Marda Loop

Dec 19 2017, 11:28 am

Whether you’re after a quick snack or meal, make sure you check out our weekly Cheap Eats post dedicated to affordable and tasty food in Calgary aimed at satisfying your belly without breaking the bank.

Today we’re rounding up a list of where to nab some cheap eats in Calgary’s Marda Loop neighbourhood for around $10.

Belmont Diner

For something a little more upscale in the diner department, the Belmont Diner fits the bill, and has a couple of great menu options that are $10 or less (or just a bit more). For breakfast, try their B.O.B. (Breakfast on a Bun), which is egg, melted cheese, grilled tomatoes and choice of bacon, beef sausage or ham, served with hashbrowns, or their $10.25 Traditional Breakfast with eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. For lunch, plates run in the pricier $12 to $15 range, but come with endless hashbrowns…hello, awesome!

Mmm, deli meats! Avenue Deli has a slender menu, but it has a few options for getting your deli fix without spending too much. Their original Montreal-style smoked meat sandwich comes in a Regular cut (6-ounce) serving for $12 and is served with coleslaw, potato chips and a pickle. Similarly, a small Reuben is $12.50, and a plain all-beef hot dog just $7 (it’s $8 to get it “Quebec all dressed”). Hit them up in the morning for their breakfast sandwiches, too, which are $7 to $10.50.

Pips Board Game Cafe

If you like your food with a side of game-playing, head to Pips for the board game cafe experience. While many of their mains don’t qualify as cheap eats, per se, you can head there in the morning for breakfasts in the $10 range, and during the day, you can enjoy an assortment of sides and what they call “bits and bites” for perfect grazing while you’re defeating your opponent at the game of your choice.

Phil & Sebastian

In addition to their great coffee, at Phil & Sebastian’s Marda Loop outpost you’ll find a menu of fresh salads, sandwiches, soups, and breakfast options that are in the $10 (or less) range. With suppliers like Sidewalk Citizen and Vital Greens, they are putting together some mighty tempting dishes here.
