Calgary can expect up to 20 cm of snow by Friday morning

Following a special weather statement issued on Wednesday, Environment Canada has followed up with a snowfall warning for Calgary.

Thanks to a low-pressure system sweeping into the area, heavy snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day and into Friday morning – up to 20 cm of snow will blanket Calgary’s streets when all is said and done.

The heaviest snowfall will likely fall at higher elevations, including along the Icefields Parkway.

A release from the government of Alberta warns drivers of worsening conditions and visibility in much of southern Alberta as a result of the snowy weather, urging them to postpone non-essential travel and, if you must drive, to ensure that your vehicle is equipped to handle snowy roads.

While the city may be buried in the next few hours, Calgary’s forecast at the start of next week looks to be a little warmer and a lot sunnier.
