One of Calgary’s most iconic places for two-steppin’ and line dancing has gone up for lease.
Ranchman’s went up for lease this week for the first time in its history, effectively closing the country music staple.

Ranchman’s was famous (though some may say infamous) for its live music, mechanical bull, Buckets of Fun, and dancing, and it had been the place “where real cowboys hang their hats” for 47 years.
Past patrons of the place were quick to take to Twitter to disclose their own (often hazy) memories of nights out at the bar and their speculation as to what might become of the building in the years to come.
Here’s how the city reacted to the news of the indefinite closure of the long-lived honky-tonk:
I think @paulbrandt amd @TerriClarkMusic should go together amd buy @Ranchmans and make it a killer country music live band Damcehall again.🤷‍♀️ I mean country artist have many bars in Nashville. It’s #YYC chance now and you guys would ROCK IT

I’ve been in the @Ranchmans through five decades since the 70’s. I hope Rob finds someone who will keep it going. So many vague memories. #yyc #ranchmans pic.twitter.com/ZxiwJfnMBj

Even though I haven’t been in years, the truth is, getting twirled by some random stranger at Ranchmans is a weird unwritten right of Calgary passage though…@KirstiinJFM

Had many a good times @Ranchmans both as a guest and performing. Hoping someone will keep this iconic building filled with country music once again #countrymusic #history #calgary pic.twitter.com/niG3HGUHrK
