Bulk Barn issues recall for chocolate bars containing undeclared allergen

On Thursday, December 20, Health Canada updated an existing recall for a brand of dark chocolate bars, due to the presence of an undeclared allergen.

Initially confined to one bar, retailer Bulk Barn Foods is expanding the recall to seven different types of Coco Polo brand Dark Cocoa Bars because they were found to contain milk without being declared on the label.

People with an allergy to milk should not consume the recalled products described below.

An undeclared allergen is defined by the CFIA as a food product that “contains ingredients such as peanuts, milk or eggs that are not identified on the label and that can cause adverse reactions in people who are allergic to the item.”

While there have been no reported reactions associated with the consumption of these products, any person finding they are in possession of one of the products, and has a milk allergy should throw it out, or return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.
