The Broadway Across Canada 2016/2017 season comes to Calgary

Broadway Across Canada comes to Calgary’s Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in 2016 with some of the best musicals in history and some of the best performers in the business.

Tickets and information can be found on the Broadway Across Canada website, but to give you a taste of what’s to come here’s our rundown of some of this year’s highlights:

Kinky Boots

The Broadway classic with music from 80s icon Cyndi Lauper, and written by Harvey Fierstein. Kinky Boots follows the story of Charlie Price, as he struggles with his father’s expectations that he take up the family business of Price & Sons. With his family’s factory and future hanging in the balance, Price finds help in Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella

A fairy tale adaptation from the creators of Oklahoma! and The King and I. It’s a story everyone knows: a beleaguered house maid, her evil step mother, a glass slipper, and the prince that could change everything. Set to magnificent orchestral music and lyrics by two of the most prolific musical creators of all time.

Newsies

Winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Choreography and Best Score, Newsies tells the story of the newspaper boys of New York City and their war against publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer. As much a history lesson as it is entertainment, Newsies is a never-forget-it classic.

The Book of Mormon

The surprise hit musical from the creators of infamous cartoon South Park, The Book of Mormon follows two Mormon missionaries as they attempt to spread the word of their faith in a remote Ugandan village. AIDS, famine, and a brutal warlord – nothing can dampen the spirits of these upbeat men of God.
