It’s all about to happen.

If you’ve ever wanted to see what 50,000 sunflowers look like in bloom, you’d better clear your schedule this weekend.

The Bowden SunMaze in Bowden, Alberta is predicting that their fields will be in full bloom this Saturday, August 17, as roughly 10% of their flowers have started to open up over the past week.

The farm’s one-acre patch of 50,000 flowers strong will likely be blooming sooner than the other two larger patches, which “will reach full bloom later this month,” according to the Bowden SunMaze website.

The maze is currently open for anyone who wants to get there before the crowds, and with a decent amount of flowers now showing their faces, that might not be the worst idea — unless you like crowds.

The later two blooming are expected to start around August 20, though early to mid-September may be the best bet for catching a full bloom for those patches.

“This year we have three plantings of Sunflowers. The first to bloom is just one acre and was planted with around 50,000 sunflowers,” states the website.

“The second two plantings are four acres each and should start blooming around the 20th of August.”

No matter when you go over the next month or so, you should be able to catch some stunningly yellow flowers, enjoy a walk through the maze, and pick your own organic flowers, peas, beans, zucchini, onions, potatoes, and strawberries at the farm’s Upick.

The farm and maze are open rain or shine — but we’d suggest wearing your hardiest pair of rubber boots if it’s a wet one on the day that you want to visit.

Bowden can be reached along Highway 2, is just before Red Deer, and takes about one hour and 20 minutes to reach by car from Calgary.

Oh yeah, and this place makes for the perfect place to get some absolutely amazing photos, like these ones from last year:
