Some of Calgary’s finest metal bands are set to perform at the very first Black Mourning Light Metal Festival.

Calgary-based groups Trær, Vile Insignia, Interitum, Chieftain, AfterEarth, and Numenorean are amongst a handful of other western Canadian bands that will hit the stage at Edmonton’s Rendezvous Pub on Saturday, October 31, with a promise to “blow ears, minds, and speakers.”

The festival, which places an emphasis upon sub-genres like black metal, doom, and dark death metal, will be also feature plenty of new music to rock out to from the aforementioned Calgarians, many of whom have just released brand new albums. Vile Insignia will be playing songs from their latest, Bestial Invocation — their debut full-length, which is already receiving rave reviews from critics. Local favourites AfterEarth also dropped their debut LP, In The Shadow of Destiny, in September. And Trær, a relatively new collective who released their demo in August, will be opening the festival.

Along with a great lineup, the Black Mourning Light Metal Festival will offer drinks specials and food specials. Since the event falls on Halloween, prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.

Doors at Rendezvous Pub open at 12 p.m. and Trær kicks things off at 1 p.m. Digital tickets are $35 and are available online through YEGLive here. Physical tickets can be ordered via the Black Mourning Light Facebook page.
