When I received my first DSLR, a graduation gift from my parents after I obtained my physics degree, it never occurred to me that night photography would be something I could or would do. My initial professional photography direction started with taking some photos for friends’ bands and then getting into concert photography. Over the past 7 years I’ve photographed some of my favourite bands, including some more well-known names like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. I’ve travelled across North America to cover concerts and festivals and even went out a few times on international waters on the world’s biggest heavy metal cruise. If it wasn’t for physics and heavy metal I wouldn’t be doing what I do today. I absolutely love photographing the night sky and exploring the Canadian Rockies and surrounding foothills and prairies. It’s my creative release and my escape where I can find stillness for my mind and truly immerse myself in a moment. This image is a three shot vertical panorama taken during a hazy May night at Vermilion lakes.
