Backpacking 101 for Calgarians wanting to be a little more adventurous

Mountain Equipment Co-op is hosting a 2 hour event to help you get ready for camping season. The Beauty In The Backcountry & MEC: Backpacking 101 session will be held this Thursday, April 28 for people that need a little help getting their new hobby started.

During the event you’ll be shown what to pack for a trip and how to pack it efficiently. There will also be guidance on how to pick the right gear for your trip, whether that includes buying or renting the equipment. Some trip recommendations will also be given for places to try out this year.

The event will take place in the Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) community meeting room and representatives will give you a tour of the store to help familiarize yourself with the layout for when you want to pack up and go. You’ll also receive a $10 gift card for Beauty In The Backcountry’s online where you can purchase all natural, handmade toiletries designed and packaged specifically for backpacking and outdoor adventures.
