How to make the perfect cocktail for National Rum Day (RECIPE)

Aug 16 2017, 12:38 am

Here in Canada, we love rum so much that we’ve even created a day to celebrate the fact.

Yes people, August 16 is National Rum Day.

And to celebrate this year’s event, global rum producer Bacardi challenged bartenders across the country to get creative and design new, innovative rum cocktails.

When you think of a typical rum cocktail you’d imagine a rum and coke mix, a mojito, or a dark ‘n stormy, but since these libations are classics, there’s room in the market for some new movers and shakers.

That’s why Calgary bar manager and industry veteran, Lee Peppinck of the Living Room restaurant, created the ‘Spicy Bacardi Daiquiri’ – a perfect summer cocktail.

Peppink has more than 28 years experience as a bartender and he can often be found competing in and winning cocktail competitions. And for this particular competition, he combines rum with fresh lime juice, fine sugar, and Bittercube Bolivar bitters.

The recipe is easy to make and can be multiplied to make impressive, creative home cocktails that are ideal to serve up at a summer party or a backyard barbecue with your friends. And you can even try it out today since it’s National Rum Day after all.
