Awesome Alberta: Take a summer dip at Quarry Lake Park (PHOTOS)

Aug 25 2020, 6:20 pm

COVID-19 still presents a very real and dangerous threat to public health. While much of Albertaā€™s outdoors have been reopened to visitors, it is recommendedĀ to plan ahead, check local restrictions andĀ current public health measures, and avoid any areas that may be too crowded.Ā

This lake is so beautiful that it’s not a rare sight to see a wedding ceremony on its shores.

Quarry Lake Park, located near Canmore, Alberta, is a swimmable body of water surrounded by grassy fields and the gorgeous Rocky Mountains.

This is the perfect place to cool off, spend the day with friends, or even tie the knot with that special someone.

For your own safety, please makeĀ sure you are prepared before heading outĀ on your next adventure. Information on how to prepare for your trip and stay safe while on your hike is available fromĀ Albertaparks.caĀ andĀ AdventureSmart. Parks Canada visitor guidelines are availableĀ here.Ā Always remember to leave no trace, pack out what you pack in, stick to designated trails, and refrain from feeding wildlife ā€” and please note that irresponsibly taken selfies (even if they look great for the ā€˜gram)Ā can be fatal.Ā

Where is it?

Quarry Lake Park is located just southwest of Canmore, nestled in the foothills of the Three Sisters. It is right outside the Town of Canmore, meaning that it won’t take much of a walk (much less a hike) to get from the car to the water.

How do you get there?

From Calgary, the most direct route would be to take Highway 1 west from the city, and then hop onto Highway 742 towards Canmore. Once you get to the town, continue along the Three Sisters Parkway until you reach the turnoff for Quarry Lake Park.

Keep an eye out on the left for a sign, and the parking lot is located right off of the parkway.

Those heading from Edmonton will simply need to make the three hour journey south to Calgary before following the same directions.

What’s there?

A short skip and hop away from the parking lot sits many grassy areas to relax on, a swimmable lake to enjoy, and a stunning landscape to view.

As it is a very accessible area, you should also expect to see other visitors ā€” many geared up with BBQs, tables, and chairs.

A rope swing may be in the cards, as seen in recent Instagram posts from the area, but you never can tell how long those will stay up.

It may not be the most secluded location in the Rockies, but if you’re looking for a relaxing time by the water, Quarry Lake Park is a definite go-to!
