Avalanche closes Trans-Canada Highway west of Lake Louise

Feb 9 2017, 12:16 am

Early Wednesday morning, an avalanche shut down a section of the Trans-Canada Highway in Yoho National Park near Field, BC all the way to the BC-Alberta border and forced a halt to traffic in both directions.

An advisory from the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the road is closed in both directions in Yoho National Park from Field, BC up to the BC-Alberta border. There is no detour around; the only alternate route is Highways 95 and 93, which carries an estimated travel time of 2.5 hours.

It is anticipated the highway will reopen at 11 am PST.
