Former NHL defenceman Andrew Ference took Calgary Flames fans for a trip down memory lane this week.

Ference, who had an impressive 907-game NHL career, spent parts of four seasons with the Flames from 2003 to 2007. He was a part of the Flames team that advanced to the Stanley Cup Final back in 2004, and chose to recently release some pictures on Instagram he had from that legendary group.

“2003-04 Calgary Flames Cup Finals Run,” Ference wrote on Instagram. “I had a little Sony digital camera that I pestered the guys with. Don’t think these have ever really seen the light of day.”

Ference posted nearly 80 photos in total over four separate posts, which can all be viewed on his profile. Several of the pictures include some legends from that team including Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff. Flames GM Craig Conroy, who was a major contributor on that team, was also featured in several.

Flames fans flooded the comments to reminisce that group who meant so much to Calgarians, with one user writing, “This group is what gave me my love for the sport. Thank you to you and all the members of that team for igniting a city and making it cool to be a Flames fan again!”

The Flames went on an improbable run that season, as, despite finishing sixth in the Western Conference standings, were able to knock off the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and San Jose Sharks.

They then found themselves in the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. They wound up falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a series that still irks Flames fans to this day due to an extremely controversial non-call in Game 6.

Though they were unable to hoist the Stanley Cup, the unexpected run from that group has them etched into Flames history forever, making it all the more fun that Ference was able to dig up these old photos and share them for everybody to see.
