We may be rolling into mid-April, but that isn’t stopping old man winter from wanting to make a spring appearance, with up to 20 cm of snow in the forecast soon for parts of Alberta.
Luckily, places like Edmonton and Calgary will be taking in some moderate temperatures this weekend; however, portions of western Alberta aren’t in such a rosy position.
Snowfall warnings were issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Friday afternoon due to heavy snowfall expected in portions of the Rockies and Foothills on Saturday, with total accumulations of 10 to 20 cm.
ECCC stated that the snowfall will begin as flurries early Saturday morning and become more steady by noon. Snowfall could accumulate rapidly, especially in areas of higher elevation, on Saturday afternoon and evening. Snow will taper off early Sunday morning.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop,” ECCC added.
Snowfall warnings are in place for areas such as Banff, Lake Louise, Kananaskis Village, and Canmore. The full list of warnings can be found online.
As for how the weekend is shaping up for Edmonton and Calgary, not a chance of a flurry falling is in sight, thankfully!
