Alberta is expanding its vaccine program to include paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

It’s offering vaccine to emergency medical services workers beginning Monday, January 11, Health Minister Tyler Shandro said at a news conference.

“Paramedics are on the front line as healthcare workers,” he said.

EMS personnel will be able to reserve a vaccine slot through Alberta’s online booking system for health workers.

So far, the province has offered vaccine to long-term care residents and staff, ICU physicians and nurses, and respiratory therapists.

To date almost 47,000 doses of vaccine have been administered in Alberta. The province is averaging 3,800 immunizations per day.
