A spot in western Alberta has been named one of the most overlooked places in the Rockies, despite the nearby area receiving plenty of visitors every year.
World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released its list of eight of the most overlooked small spots in the Rockies, and one hamlet that is nestled in a busy area for nature lovers made the cut.
Plenty of spots in the United States landed on the list, along with one other spot in Canada, with Revelstoke in neighbouring British Columbia popping up.
The hamlet of Bragg Creek was named to the list, and is sometimes referred to as “Kananaskis’ best-kept secret.”

Bragg Creek is named after Albert Warren Bragg from Collingwood, Nova Scotia, and his 13-year-old brother John Thomas Bragg, who came to the area with dreams of becoming cowboys and living the ranching lifestyle, according to Visit Bragg Creek.
From the 1920s onward, the Bragg Creek area became increasingly popular as a weekend and retirement destination, and has a population of more than 400, as of the 2021 Census of Population.
It’s just 30 minutes west of Calgary, and is a unique trailhead community connecting east and west. Bragg Creek Trailhead welcomes travellers from far and wide for world-class outdoor recreation, drawing 200,000 annual visitors for its exceptional skiing, biking, hiking, snowshoeing, and equestrian network of trails.
“Visitors can enjoy active hikes and leisurely sightseeing or activities like horseback riding and photography, with a lively atmosphere back in town, home to upscale lodging, classic saloons, and family fun, such as during the Tsuut’ina Pow Wow and Rodeo,” World Atlas added.
