Alberta is showing the largest increase in the total amount of donations between 2004 and 2013 in Canada, according to a new statistics Canada Charitable giving by individuals report.

Donations in Alberta rose from $1.2 billion in 2004 and to $2.4 billion in 2013 — a 100 per cent increase.

Donations in Alberta that were made by primary donors — the 10 per cent of individuals who gave the most money during the year — increased by $1.0 billion between 2004 and 2013, compared with the increased $200 million donations made by other donors.

Following Alberta with significant increases are Saskatchewan at an increase of 54 per cent, Manitoba at 48 per cent, and British Columbia at 47 per cent.
