Alberta is planning to introduce new consumer protections for people buying resale event tickets.
The proposed changes are part of the province’s fall legislative agenda, which focuses on affordability, health care, education, and the economy.
Daily Hive reached out to the Alberta government for more information.
“We plan to introduce legislation this fall that would establish further protections for Albertans buying resale tickets. We will have more information to share once the legislation is introduced,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction said.

Alberta’s consumer protection laws targeting ticket bots and establishing refund protections for resale tickets were last updated in 2018.
The planned changes come as other governments in Canada look to address concerns about inflated resale prices.
In April, Ontario introduced changes prohibiting tickets to concerts, cultural events, sporting events, and other live events from being resold for more than their original price. It’s unclear what Alberta’s proposed legislation will look like.
