Stormtroopers and Jedis aim to run Alberta NDP out of the galaxy

Some anti-NDP protestors are using the likes of Star Wars to recruit signatures for their petition to boot the party from Alberta.

The “No NDP” group has launched a petition and are looking for volunteers – or Emporor Palpatine’s Petitioners – in Calgary to disseminate the movement across the province, hoping their action will cause the NDP and Premier Rachel Notley to leave office.

“We are calling for volunteers to join Emporor Palpatine’s Petitioners in Calgary! (Yes, our name is from the Dark Side, but we accept Jedi, Sith, and bounty hunters as well),” reads their call to action. “Our troopers will canvass the city for signatures for our petitions and plebiscites to help remove the NDP, whose reign is far more evil than the Sith themselves.”

They are also planning a protest in Calgary and encourage participants to arrive in Stormtrooper helmets, Rebel Alliance uniforms, Jedi robes, and Sith costumes.

Aside from their pop culture referencing, the No NDP organization says they want to create a “positive atmosphere for Calgarians of all stripes to take action on the economically destructive and undemocratic policies of the current NDP administration.”

In what they are calling “good family fun”, the organization plans to “democratically and lawfully take our province/galaxy back.”
