Another 1,301 COVID-19 cases were discovered in Alberta in the last 24 hours, health officials announced Wednesday.

That’s more than the 1,021 new cases discovered Tuesday and the 1,240 discovered Monday.

“We need to collectively make choices that will not accelerate our spread,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw said at her Wednesday briefing, referring to how people decide to spend their Christmas.

Alberta also recorded 19 more deaths due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, although some of them happened earlier and were just added to provincial datasets this week.

Right now Alberta has 17,821 active cases of COVID-19. There are 821 people in hospital, including 146 in intensive care.

The province’s test positivity rate is hovering around 6.8%
